Lesson 58/61 | Study Time: 30 Min
Lesson 03: Equality

Equality:

It means to be equal, to stand on same 'equality' level. In technical terms, it is known as all members of a society are equal and no one has priority over others. The lesson taught by Hazrat Muhammad by his saying and action is the example in its own and unique in the history of mankind.

In the sight of Hazrat Muhammad master all were equal. The Holy Prophet eliminated all differences of caste, color and race. In his sight, the status of Salman Farsi Bilal Habshi and Sohaib Rumi was not less than that of the chiefs and respectables of Quraish.

i. Equality in the light of Holy Quran:

rich and poor, king and beggar, slave and rooted out family and tribal pride and he race. Allah has made it clear that all human beings are equal. If someone has a priority over others, that is due to his righteousness. Nothing is the cause of prestige from color, blood, race, caste and community. Allah has said in the Holy Quran:

يَاتِهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْتُكُمْ مِنْ ذَكَرَ وَ أُنثى وَجَعَلْنَكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ أَنكُمْ (المجرات (13)

Translation: "O Mankind, indeed 'we have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you”.

ii. Equality in the light of hadees;

Our Holy Prophet always taught about equality, as it is evident from his following sayings:

On the conquest of Makkah, he said to Quraish of Makkah in his address: "Oh Quraish, Indeed, Allah has eliminated your arrogance of ignorance and pride on family. All men are offspring of Adam and Adam was created from dust.'

He said on the occasion of "Hijjatual Widdah".

Translation: "O people your lord is one and your father is one. No Arab over a Non-Arab, and no ajami Non-Arab over an Arab, no red over a black and. no black over a red (person) has any preference except in righteousness".

The Holy Prophet said:

Translation: "Men are equal like teeth of comb".

iii. Training center of equality:

Másjid is the practical training center of equality for Muslims and prayer is the best demonstration of equality. Whether rich or poor, tribe is big or small, all offer prayer in one mosque. In Islam, the criteria of honor and greatness are based on piety and righteousness instead of caste, tribe. and family.

iv. Equality and pattern of Holy Prophet:

What could be the greater implication of equality than this that Holy Prophet did marry his so called son Hazrat Zaid freed from slavery with his cousin Hazrat Zainab. More, Hazrat Muhammad didn't fix any place for his sitting and used to sit among his companions frankly. His dress was like other common Muslims dress. His house was so simple and small and his food was also very simple.

While constructing Masjid Nabwi and Masjid Quba the Holy Prophet worked together with his companions and even on occasion of Ghazwae Ahzab, he excavated trench jointly with other Muslims.
